"Never Let Me Go" by Kazuo Ishiguro

Front Cover

Never Let Me Go

~ Kazuo Ishiguro
Unexpectedly, I found myself reading this book. No idea what to expect, but I did know the author was a prize winning novelist.

It took me forever to finish, as I found it slow, very slow, yet I still continued on, much to the credit of the author's writing.

Detailed thoughts, feelings from these young people kept me trying my best to finish, to find out what it was about.

I suspected it was a science fiction, futurist story, and I was correct.

Congratulations to the author, it was very well conceived and expressively written.

Still, it wasn't one I'd want to re-read!

Fabulous!

Such an articulate man, very sensitive to the World around him. He recited stories, poems, on love, desire, friendship, families along with a vast amount of personal history.
His book is open!

Nanaimo Concert Band - Spring Concert

Nanaimo Concert Band

~ the Spring Concert April 23, 2017 at the Port Theatre in Nanaimo

This was a lot of fun.
They played some marches, Star Trek theme, a Nfld love song from one of the members of the flute section.
An award to a member who had 70+ years of service to the band!
Can't believe it, that's incredible today.

The audience was much appreciative, and it was a wonderful and inexpensive way to pass a Sunday afternoon

Ballet Victoria
~ in Courtenay March 31, 2017
Chance to see the ballet company based in Victoria at the Sid Williams (where else?)

What a fabulous event, seats were filled with local dance students, as well as old fogies like myself.

Reminded me of the days when daughter Julie danced her way through high school and beyond.

Baritone Brett Polegato accompanied by pianist Robert Kortgaard performed an exquisite concert this night at the Sid Williams

Broadway tunes spanning the decades from early 1900s to the present, this was stunning.

The audience was transported spellbound  by the voice, the range, the presentation of the night.

Perfect evening

AbbaMania!!

AbbaMania, the BeeGees, and others!
~ yes, others included Cher, Lady Gaga, Paul McCartney
~ March 14, 2017

This was at the Sid in Courtenay, just a fun no thinking night out to hear some good tunes.

The Cher lookalike was dressed in the leather tights Cher garb. Geez...
Lady Gaga was a surprise, she sang a song I'd not known, so eh??
PAul was very good, and sang my fav PMc song Maybe I'm Amazed, plus Live and let Die, so I was impressed
The BeeGees were good, always enjoyed their tunes
Abba was OK, never got into them when they were big, but then I was "outta da loop" most o da time anyway.

All in all it was a good night out, a glass of wine always helps too!

Jimi: All Is by My Side

Jimi: All Is by My Side

Jimi All Is by My Side poster.jpg
I enjoyed it, thought Andre Benjamin was awesome on guitar
Didn't know if it was factually accurate, but wtf, it was entertaining

Too bad his estate didn't give permission for the film maker to use Jimi's original music.
Only old blues standards, and covers of other hits

Eddie The Eagle - movie

Edwards michael w.jpg

Eddie the Eagle

~ as seen on NetFlix, the story of a young man's ambition, desire and determination to reach the Olympic Games in Calgary AB 1988 to represent his homeland of England.

What an inspiration he is, despite so many obstacles along the way, least of which was his athletic ability, Eddie manages to draw fans from around the world.

Really a good watch! Trailer

What ever happened to Eddie?

Edmonton Alberta

Edmonton Alberta
~ a visit to Liz's son Chris, wife Jaime, and other sites

This was also a trip using the new airline, New Leaf Travel - Flair Airline, flying from Abbotsford BC to Edmonton AB.
Cost was approximately $100 each way, a real deal!

The West Edmonton Mall (WEM)

I know it's been around awhile, but I'd not been so I had to make a visit.
It was quite the place, everything was there;
hockey rink
water park
amusement park
water sea animal show
mini golf putting greens
Theme streets; Bourbon, Parisian

and of course the stores.

It was enormous, and the place was busy with after Christmas shoppers.

I loved the cold, the crispness of the snow.
The trek we took to the North Saskatchewan River was huge.
Tiring yes, but worth it.
Now anyway, at the time, I wasn't so sure!
