Nanaimo Concert Band

~ the Spring Concert April 23, 2017 at the Port Theatre in Nanaimo

This was a lot of fun.

They played some marches, Star Trek theme, a Nfld love song from one of the members of the flute section.

An award to a member who had 70+ years of service to the band!

Can't believe it, that's incredible today.

The audience was much appreciative, and it was a wonderful and inexpensive way to pass a Sunday afternoon

Baritone Brett Polegato accompanied by pianist Robert Kortgaard performed an exquisite concert this night at the Sid Williams

Broadway tunes spanning the decades from early 1900s to the present, this was stunning.

The audience was transported spellbound  by the voice, the range, the presentation of the night.

This was at the Sid in Courtenay, just a fun no thinking night out to hear some good tunes.

The Cher lookalike was dressed in the leather tights Cher garb. Geez...
Lady Gaga was a surprise, she sang a song I'd not known, so eh??
PAul was very good, and sang my fav PMc song Maybe I'm Amazed, plus Live and let Die, so I was impressed
The BeeGees were good, always enjoyed their tunes
Abba was OK, never got into them when they were big, but then I was "outta da loop" most o da time anyway.

All in all it was a good night out, a glass of wine always helps too!

Jimi: All Is by My Side

~ NetFlix biopic of Jimi Hendrix early years in London

 1966 - 1967 before the Monterey Festival

I enjoyed it, thought Andre Benjamin was awesome on guitar

Didn't know if it was factually accurate, but wtf, it was entertaining

Too bad his estate didn't give permission for the film maker to use Jimi's original music.
Only old blues standards, and covers of other hits

The band was superb, and the singer really had the voice down pat

Seeing that there was a musical event at the Sid, I purchased tickets and we went to see David Myles.
Sight and sound totally unknown at the time, but now, a definite favourite artist

What a great musician, and showman!
Excellent guitarist, appeared in Victoria this friends, on a Friday evening Nov 4th.

Having never heard his music before, I wasn't sure what to expect.
Was I ever delighted!!

Great songs, rhythms, musicians, and venue.

This was billed as a group playing hit songs of Billy Joel and Elton John, but ended up as a 70s Nostalgia trip!!

It included a segment on 70s TV theme songs.
I don't give a rats ass about those Ok??

Gilligans Island, Partridge Family, Monkees, duh!
I wanted more songs from the superstar guys!

What they played was great, but it seemed like they yapped for too long. 

Ultimately I was disappointed.

I was looking for details from Jim on how, why, when these songs were written, what the artist was thinking, the nuances of each particular piece. Too much to expect I guess.

Hadn't heard of this brother and sister before, so was interested in hearing their musical stories
Well received by the locals here, I enjoyed the mix of original and covered versions.
Musicians were excellent, and a mighty fine time was had by all.
